The exciting world of automatic doors at BAU
Automatic door systems are found with increasing frequency in corporate and also private buildings. At the BAU exhibition the Swiss manufacturer TORMAX is using fully operational exhibits to demonstrate how doors can now be made to open as silently as are also fast and safe. Working in collaboration with the Company for Gerentological Technology (Gesellschaft für Gerontotechnik) which has constructed a complete house at the exhibition, TORMAX is demonstrating the increase in convenience, safety and freedom from barriers that can be gained by the use of automatic doors – and not just for the benefit of the elderly.
The door drive is at the heart of every automatic door. But at Stand 309 in Hall B3, which covers more than 100 m², TORMAX is showing that there is much more to a fully-functional door system. For example, the company is showing a new automatic sliding door with a recently developed thermally insulated profile which significantly reduces heat transmission and therefore saves energy and helps the environment. The door is controlled by the slender, new iMotion 2202 sliding door. With an installation height of 100 mm it belongs to the iMotion generation and completes the current product range. Like all the other drives of this generation it has all the proven iMotion features. The drive was developed in the best TORMAX quality in Switzerland - which is also where it is manufactured.
Doors which never fail to impress with their functional, aesthetic and architectural qualities,
TORMAX will also be featuring architectural possibilities for automatic doors on its stand – for example a complete turnstile revolving door with profiles made from Corten steel which create a striking aesthetic effect. A series of swing and sliding doors on a “drive wall“ provide an insight into the full extent of the product range – a challenging undertaking, as Katrin Hecke, the TORMAX Marketing Manager explains. “It is quite impossible to show the full range of our products on an exhibition stand. Nevertheless, by using different zones on the stand we can demonstrate to architects and owners what automatic doors are all about. We can also provide them with targeted information on products and themes in our consultancy lounge.”
Animation projection on the stand
Audiovisual animations illustrate the situations in which automatic doors are sensible and add convenience into everyday life. “We are also specifically addressing the issue of barrier-freedom“ states Katrin Hecke. She explains that today it is not just about providing the handicapped or wheel-chair users with access to buildings such as care homes, but that it is also about making access to offices, restaurants or residential buildings easier. TORMAX is also using its automatic door systems to make the life of hospital staff, people carrying suitcases, mothers with buggies and shoppers with shopping bags easier than before.
Swiss quality and a strong presence in Germany
It is already a tradition that this company which is based in Switzerland is taking space at the BAU exhibition in Munich. Katrin Hecke, “As a company selling automatic door systems at an international level, we are represented on five continents and are one of Europe’s leading manufacturers. We also have a very effective sales organisation in Germany. It is therefore entirely logical that we have a stand in Munich again this year.” But there is more than business waiting for customers in Munich – TORMAX will be organising a draw of a tablet PC and Victorinox tools – an entire tool-chest in a Swiss knife. And one hour before the exhibition closes there will be a “chill-out party” on the stand when it will be possible to network and discuss business in a more informal and relaxed way.
